The 2005 LocoMotion International Film Festival, produced by Spy Hop Productions and presented by the Kennedy Center Imagination Celebration of Salt Lake City, showcases the emerging visions of young people and celebrates artistic excellence, technical achievement, and originality through he presentation of creative and compelling short films.

The 2005 LocoMotion International Film Festival, held in Salt Lake City on April 21st and 22nd, promises to be one of the country’s premiere youth film festivals and continues to be dedicated to supporting and promoting young filmmakers in the cinematic fields of documentary, experimental, narrative, PSA and animation. The dynamic festival promotes authentic youth produced media as a means to entertain, educate and inform Salt Lake City attendees of youth-based artistic and socially conscious perspectives. In addition to two evenings of short film screenings, the LocoMotion festival also hosts two full days of provocative workshops, a screenwriting contest, and a 24-hour filmmaking competition.

In addition to two evenings of short film screenings on April 21st and 22nd, the LocoMotion weekend is also filled with provocative workshops and speakers. These workshops bring insightful industry leaders and nationally acclaimed filmmakers to Salt Lake City, and allow young people from various community groups and schools to work with professional mentors.

LocoMotion 2005 will also feature a short screenplay writing contest and a 24-hour film making competition. The writing competition will solicit short screenplays written by American teenagers from across the country. The winning writer will be announced on the last evening of the festival and then flown to Salt Lake City during the summer months to direct and produce the award-winning piece of writing.

Capitalizing on spontaneous, creative impulses, the 24-Hour Film Making Competition will give interested youth an opportunity to demonstrate their resourcefulness in creating an entire short film from pre-production to post in only a day's time. In addition to a rigorous shooting and delivery schedule, a set of prescribed parameters will also challenge the teams. Gathering at 5pm on April 15th, the competitors will be required to turn in their completed films 24 hours later the following day. The winning five-minute film will be screened at the festival.
